Money raised during The Box will be donated to Women’s Initiative for Self Employment: Inspiring High-Potential, Low-Income Women Entrepreneurs. www.womensinitiative.org
Special thank you to LESLIE CERAMIC for the generous clay and glaze donation. www.leslieceramics.com
ABOUT THE BOX INSTILLATION:
Warehouse416 and a group of women artists have created an art installation inspired by Judy Chicago’s feminist opus ‘The Dinner Party’. In a series of group workshops, participants sculpted ceramic ‘vagina portraits’ in the form of bowls to honor women in history or women they know and are inspired by. A separate group of women worked together to create textile-based place settings that include embroidery, sewing, and painting. The work sits on a box-shaped table.
At the opening reception on March 12th 2011, Warehouse416 will display the completed table with 20 bowls and textiles.

WAYS TO DONATE:
All proceeds from this project will be donated to Women’s Initiative for Self Employment. www.womensinitiative.org
SILENT AUCTION: Ongoing, from now until March 23rd. All of the bowls and textiles are being auctioned off in a silent auction posted at the gallery. You can view the items HERE as well as bid. If you would prefer to see them in person, our gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday from 1 to 6 pm.

The Vagina Monologues is a painfully funny, poignant, and provocative exploration of international female experiences. The show is simple: 16 monologues about all-things-vagina, based on activist Eve Ensler’s interviews with over 200 women. You will laugh, you will wince, you will be angry, and hopefully you will leave inspired.
ABOUT THE CAUSE
All donations benefit our two spotlights, including activist efforts in Haiti and here in Oakland through Bay Area Women Against Rape (BAWAR).
V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Playwright/Founder Eve Ensler’s award winning play The Vagina Monologues and other artistic works.
